Milkshake Duck

What Does Milkshake Duck Mean?

Milkshake Duck means "Famous To Infamous."

Milkshake Duck is a slang term that refers to subjects that achieve online fame and are widely perceived as positive, but are quickly revealed as deeply flawed, thereby quickly passing from being famous to being infamous.

Milkshake Duck was started as a humorous meme on Twitter in June 2016, when Australian cartoonist Ben Ward, using the handle "pixelatedboat," posted a tweet about the internet's love for the Milkshake Duck, followed by the revelation that the duck is racist. The term Milkshake Duck was quickly applied to anyone who gains sudden fame and public adoration, only to soon afterwards be reviled for distasteful or offensive opinions that they may hold or may have expressed in the past, or for something that they have done (no matter how long ago).

The Milkshake Duck meme was widely used online throughout 2016 and 2017. It gained much wider public exposure on 8 December 2017, when a Tennessee boy named Keaton Jones appeared in a video, visibly distraught over bullying. His mother, Kimberly, who made the film, posted the video on Facebook and it immediately went viral, gaining huge sympathy and public support for the family. However, within a few days the story became a controversy, when allegations that the family are racists began to circulate.
