GREAT RESIGNATION

What Does GREAT RESIGNATION Mean?

Great Resignation means "employees voluntarily leaving jobs en masse."

The term Great Resignation was coined in May 2021, by Professor Anthony Klotz, at University College London. It describes the phenomena of employees voluntarily resigning from their jobs en masse in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Apparently prompted by the pandemic, many workers were re-evaluating their values. In particular, those working in high-risk roles, such as healthcare, education, and hospitality, as well as those nearing retirement.

In most cases, people quickly returned to the workforce, often on better wages or with improved contracts, but usually simply through financial necessity.

The Great Resignation is also referred to as the Big Quit.
