What Does PHEV Mean in a Text?

homeEV termsPHEV

The Quick Answer

PHEV means "Plug-In Hybrid Vehicle."

More Observations...

A PHEV is a type of electric vehicle (EV) that uses either petrol or diesel fuel to power the engine, and also has batteries to power an electric motor. A PHEV can usually run on liquid fuel or electricity, or a combination of both. The batteries of a PHEV are charged by plugging them in to a home electric socket or a public charging network, in the same way as a battery electric vehicle (BEV). PHEVs are widely known as "plug-in hybrids." PHEVs contrast with hybrids (HEVs) and extended range electric vehicles (EREVs), which cannot be plugged into the mains.
