SILENT GENERATION

The Silent Generation is the generation born before and during World War II (generally accepted as between 1928 and 1946). This is the generation that was brought up through the bleak years of the Great Depression and the war. They are credited with laying the groundwork for many societal advancements, as they built on the economic prosperity of the post-war era, and contributed to the improvements in workers rights and the rise of the middle class. Some of them even supported pivotal movements like the civil rights movement, and their work ethic and frugality set an example for future generations. However, they also often adhered to rigid social norms, which stifled individuality and hindered progress in areas like gender equality and LGBTQ+ rights. Their tendency to avoid discussing emotional and mental health issues contributed to a culture of silence around these important topics.
