What Does SIMP Mean in a Text?

homesearch sSIMP
SIMP is a slang word, most often used to refer to a "Sycophantic Male." It also means "Silly Person" and "Squirrels In My Pants." Here is a little more information about each of these definitions of SIMP.

Sycophantic Male

SIMP is most often used as a derogatory term for a male who is overly attentive to females, especially if his actions are insincere, motivated by an expectation of favorable attention, and are not reciprocated. The origins of the word SIMP in this context are unclear. According to some sources, it is actually a four-letter abbreviation, which stands for Sucker Idolizing Mediocre Pussy. However, whilst typically used to refer to males, SIMP can actually be used to refer to anyone, of any gender, who says or does something principally to gain favour (i.e., a sycophant or insincere flatterer).

The use of SIMP to describe a sycophantic male gained popularity after a meme was posted on the video-sharing app TikTok in December 2019, by user polo.boyy. In the video, polo.boyy is standing in the frame, while a mashup of Rockstar by Post Malone and Hey Ya by Outkast is playing in the background and the words "If she rants to you about her relationship problems and you comfort her" appear on the screen. There is then a jump cut, which reveals polo.boyy holding his hands out and the words "Welcome to the simp nation" on the screen.

polo.boyy's meme went viral and inspired a deluge of similar TikTok videos, mainly featuring young men describing characteristics and behaviours of SIMPs. In actual fact, many of the attributes denounced as SIMPING are actually the kind and considerate actions any person might expect from a friend or lover. As usual with viral definitions, the actual meaning of SIMP depends very much on context. However, it is definitely the case that if you are being nice to someone just to gain their favor (and especially to have sex with them) you are a SIMP.

Silly Person

SIMP has long been used used as a contraction of the word "Simpleton," meaning a fool, simple or silly person, lacking common sense.

Squirrels in My Pants

"S.I.M.P. (Squirrels in My Pants)" is the title of a song featured in a 2018 episode of the animated musical comedy television series Phineas and Ferb, produced by Disney Television Animation.
