WE STAN

What Does WE STAN Mean?

WE STAN means "Wholeheartedly Agree."

The phrase WE STAN is used to express enthusiastic agreement with something that someone has just said. For example:

• Toni: BTS are probably the greatest band in the history of pop music.
• Jo: WE STAN.

• Ali: Last night's party was brill!
• Lee: WE STAN. It will forever be remembered in the history of this neighborhood.

Note the use of "we," even though only one person is speaking. This is similar to the "royal we" of Queen Victoria. It implies that the speaker is expressing an opinion held by a large group of people.

The word "stan" in the expression comes from the noun stan, which is used to describe a fan who is totally obsessed with a celebrity. (The term comes from the song Stan, released in 2000, by American rapper and songwriter Eminem.) In the case of WE STAN, "stan" expresses positive enthusiasm, rather than dangerous obsession.
