Sparkles Emoji		Group Chat You are part of a group chat on Snapchat.
Gold Star Emoji		Replayed Snaps This friend has had their Snaps replayed within the past 24 hours.
Sunglasses Emoji		Share a Friend You each send a lot of Snaps to the same person.
Smirking Emoji		Not One of Your Best Friends This person isn't one of your best friends, but you're one of theirs.
Grimacing Face Emoji		Share a Best Friend Your number #1 best friend is also their #1 best friend. Awkward.
Smiling Face Emoji		Friends You Snap each other a lot. You frequently interact with this person, but they're not your #1 best friend.
Baby Emoji		New Friend You have just become friends with this person.
Flame Emoji		SnapStreak You have Snapchatted back and forth with this person every day. The number next to the emoji increases with every consecutive day.
Hundred Emoji		100 Day SnapStreak You've kept your SnapStreak for 100 days in a row.
Hourglass Emoji		SnapStreak Ending The Snapstreak is about to end.
Cake Emoji		Birthday This friend has their birthday today.

The word emoji is made up of the Japanese words meaning "picture" (e) and "character" (moji).

Emojis are the successor to the emoticon, which conveyed similar concepts using combinations of characters found on a standard keyboard. For example:
