PODCAST

A podcast is very much like an old-style talk radio show that escaped into the internet and never came back. The term mashes together "iPod" (the OG MP3 player) and "broadcast." It refers to digital audio (and sometimes video*) episodes that you can stream or download. As well as mainstream media outlets such as the BBC, podcasters include countless niche creators, covering topics ranging from true crime to tech deep dives. It's a whole vibe because you can listen on the go while multitasking, whether you're commuting, working out, or just chilling.

As it is formed by merging two terms into one, Podcast is a portmanteau word. It is a combination of the words iPod and broadcast. Portmanteaus are efficient and catchy. They are everywhere. For example: "blog," "brunch," "bromance," "cosplay," "motel," to name just a few.
