What Does VALLEY GIRL Mean?

homesitemapsearch vVALLEY GIRL
VALLEY GIRL means "Teenage Female Airhead." The term emerged in the late 1970s, when it specifically referred to upper-middle class, teenage girl airheads from the San Fernando Valley area of San Francisco, who are obsessed with fashion and social status, and speak in a unique kind of slang (known as valspeak).

Valley Girl has since been applied more broadly as a derogatory term for any female in the US judged to be more interested in conspicuous consumption than in more serious issues.

The term Valley Girl inspired a 1983 romcom of the same name, starring Nicolas Cage and Deborah Foreman. The movie was remade in 2020, with Logan Paul and Jessica Rothe in the lead roles.
